What's worse? A bad haircut or a bad tax return
Thu Jan 30, 2014
Finally convinced my husband to let me do our taxes next year instead of paying someone else $200 to fill in a bunch of boxes.
Who's got time to be sick? Nip the cold before it nips you
Tue Jan 28, 2014
Some people can't afford to stay home when they get sick. I'm a cashier too so it's really easy for me to catch colds even though I do wash my hands and use sanitizer often. I am very conscious about not touching my eyes (a longtime habit because I wear contacts) but it happens on occasion. The thin …
Again? First-class stamp price rises to 49 cents
Mon Jan 27, 2014
We bought a roll of 100 almost a year ago and we still have plenty.
More McDonald's customers say: "I ain't lovin' it."
Thu Jan 23, 2014
I don't eat fast food all that much and rarely from McDonald's. The last time I ate at one, I was on a break from a long drive. Let's just say that after I got back on the road for a little while, I couldn't find a bathroom fast enough. Never eating there again.
Shopping cart danger: 66 kids hurt a day, study finds
Tue Jan 21, 2014
I don't evn need to read this article. I'm a cashier at a busy grocery store. If parents would actually pay attention to their kids and tell them no once in a while instead of letting them act like monkeys in the store and buying them every piece of gum or candy they ask for, these accidents wouldn' …
Forget 4K TVs: Most Americans still own a VCR
Wed Jan 8, 2014
I don't have a VCR; I'm 33 and so not too long after I turned 18 and moved out is when DVD started becoming more widely available and reasonably priced so it was pretty easy for me to replace my tiny VHS collection back then. I do have a couple of home movies on VHS sitting around in a box - apparen …
Less juice: Home electricity use falling to 2001 levels
Mon Dec 30, 2013
We're using our fireplace to heat the house this winter. That's when our electric bill shoots up from about $60 a month to $200 even when we keep the thermostat at 65. We're tired of the crazy bill.
Minimum wage worker protests raise awareness - but what about paychecks?
Fri Dec 13, 2013
Yeah because working a cash register is easy but I'll tell you what's hard is dealing with all the idiots that come through the line, piling up all the crap they figure out they don't have money for, lifting their 50lb bags of dog food and their cases of water, and standing on your feet for 8 hours …
Black Friday madness – it's not always about the deals
Tue Nov 26, 2013
Blak Friday is ridiculous, I always thought so. Nowadays it's awful. I'm working retail now so I get the lovely 7pm-4am shift Thanksgiving night and then a 4 hour shift later in the day on Friday. I have Saturday off. As long as I get through the madness of other people this week I will consider it …
Americans need more financial education, consumer watchdog says
Fri Nov 22, 2013
Wit what I see on a daily basis at work (I'm a cashier) I don't think financial education would do one bit of good. At least 50% of the customers I serve don't even keep track of what they're spending at the store. They just grab stuff and keep going. I can't tell you how many times a customer will …
